In December 2003, the FTC released its voluntary weight loss media guidelines designed to educate consumers on possible false advertising practices. The FTC gave ERA a preview of the guidelines in 2004, where the organization offered industry input during the planning process. In addition, ERA created a consumer public service announcement pertaining to this campaign to increase consumer education for the benefit of the general public and the industry overall. Through ERA’s self regulation efforts and marketing guidelines, the organization works to ensure its members are following the guidelines and remaining complaint within regulatory standards. |
