Director, Member Recruitment and Retention
ERA is the premier global trade association for companies which use the power of direct response marketing to sell goods and services to the public on television, online, and on radio. ERA serves as the cohesive voice for multi-channel marketers, while promoting government affairs initiatives and regulations designed to protect their members' bottom line. ERA members are made up of both retailers and suppliers, including direct response marketers, ad agencies, call centers, fulfillment houses, production companies, consultants, e-commerce sites, teleservices companies, media buyers and more.
Position reports to: Vice President of Sales
Location: Washington, DC
Position Overview
The Director is accountable for annual membership revenues by developing and managing new member recruitment programs to increase membership as well as overseeing and further developing retention programs to maintain existing membership. He/she is also responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan for membership recruitment, and evaluating/enhancing the existing plan in place for retention.
Responsibilities
Recruitment and Retention Program Strategic Plan: The Director develops and provides the strategies and tools needed for ERA to grow and retain members while building a strong membership culture within the organization. Working closely with ERA departments, he/she develops and directs the strategies and objectives of membership recruitment and retention programs for all membership types (core members and suppliers). He/she contributes to the formulation and implementation of membership marketing plans, which would include programs using direct mail, email marketing, social marketing and direct promotion.
Member Benefits: The Director evaluates and develops membership benefit programs that are designed to grow and retain ERA membership. He/she will design and implement work flows and procedures to better deliver the member experience and enable members to take full advantage of membership benefits.
Sales: The Director is responsible for identifying member prospects, communicating with prospects, explaining the membership value proposition and closing membership sales opportunities.
Skills and Abilities
· Ability to frame and communicate a member value proposition that leads to growth and retention of membership in targeted audiences
· Ability to develop effective membership marketing and sales programs
· Demonstrated ability/history of working with senior management and influencing top executives
· Ability to independently develop membership prospect lists, develop proposals, meet with prospects, and close sales
Experience and Education
· Experience in association membership recruitment is a must
· Experience growing membership revenue and increasing retention ratio
· Eight years’ experience in association membership/marketing/sales department, developing/servicing members, marketing association products/services
· Four years’ experience managing an association membership/marketing/sales department, including developing marketing plans and strategic objectives
· Knowledge of B2B marketing and marketing intangibles
· Excellent oral and written communications skills for a variety of audiences
· Bachelor’s degree required, with concentration preferred in business, marketing, communications or related area; MBA and CAE a plus
